Long Summary of Chapter 4 in book of Esther. Mordecai has just learned of the plan to kill all the jews. He showed his grief by wailing loudly and putting on Sackcloth and ashes and went through the city right up to the King's gate. He did not go through the King's gate because Royal Decree forbade anyone wearing sackcloth to go through the gate. Throughout the Kingdom, Jews were grieving at the news. They showed their grief by fasting, weeping, and lamenting. Most of them lay in sackcloth and ashes. When Ester heard the news she sent her servant to Mordecai to find out what had happened. Mordecai told her servant the full details of the plot to kill the Jews. He also requested that Ester go to the King and plead for the lives of the Jews. Through the Servant's messages, Mordecai hold a short dialogue. Ester says that I can't do anything. If I go to the King before he calls me, I will be killed. Mordecai replies that she and her family would be killed anyway if all the jews are killed. But God will save the Jews, if not through you, then from some other means. Perhaps God has placed you in the King's favor for just this purpose of saving the Jews. Ester then replied, I will do it. Pray for me. Have everyone you can reach hold a total fast for three days on my behalf. I and my maids will also fast. Then after the three days, I will go to the King. If I am killed, then so be it. Mordecai then did as Ester requested. As suggested by xerox given to me by Dottie Adair: Short summary of Esther: Mordecai demonstrates "I'm in a fix!" Verses 1 to 3.
