Love thy neighbor as thyself. Many times you have read this mission statement in the Gospel. I wish to expand on its meaning here. Because you love yourself, you eat, sleep, and exercise as you feel the need. If you wish to love your neighbor as yourself, then you will do whatever is in your power to see that your neighbor has access to food, shelter and freedom of movement. Because you love yourself, you work to make yourself safe everywhere you go. If you wish to love your neighbor as yourself, then you will do whatever is in your power to see that your neighbor is safe at home and work. Because you love yourself, you wish to have many friends. If you wish to love your neighbor as yourself, then whenever it is possible, you will be a friend to your neighbor. Because you love yourself, you work to prove yourself worthy of love. If you wish to love your neighbor as yourself, then, whenever it is possible, you will show your neighbor your love. Your neighbor, by seeing your love, will feel worthy of love. Because you love yourself, you work to develop your skills and abilities. If you wish to love your neighbor as yourself, then, whenever it is possible, you will help your neighbor develop skills and abilities.
