"Likewise, efforts to understand infinitely large quantities, which the Greeks had studiously avoided, infinitely small ones, which the Greeks had skillfully circumvented, negative numbers, & complex numbers floundered because mathematicians failed to appreciate that these concepts were not grounded in immediate experience, but creations of the mind. IOW, mathematicians were contributing concepts rather than abstracting ideas from the real world. For the genesis of their ideas they were turning from the sensory to the intellectual faculties." --- Morris Kline 1980 _Mathematics: The Loss of Certainty_ pg 167 |
"What wise man (ChKIMA) will decide this, for a sight of his paths, those of the Holy Upper One? The hard [stringent] judgements (DININ QShVT), the judgements that are surrounded by the upper surrounds. I say on this subject that all of those lanterns shine from the upper lantern, which is secret of all secrets; all of them are paths (DRG) that shine. And in him is the shiner (NHVRA) that is in all the path; & the path is uncovered... the shiner of all the lantern, & the lantern that they call 'the parts [of] the king (ThQVNI MLKA)', 'the surrounds [of] the king (KThRI MLKA)'. All are one, & the one shines, & is included in the innermost shiner; & it is not differentiated (or explained (PRSh)) by man." --- Moshe de Leon, George T. Sassoon & Rodney A.M. Dale 1978 "The Lesser Holy Assembly" _The Kabbalah Decoded_ pp 152-153 folio #348-353 |

Except that computer people use 2 as a base raised to multiples of powers of 10, instead of 10 raised to multiples of powers of 3 because powers of 2 are handier for them, but they also want to stay somewhat close to the values of 10 most folks are used to.

"To define negative existence clearly is impossible, for when it is distinctly defined it ceases to be negative existence; it is then negative existence passing into static condition. Therefore wisely have the Qabalists shut out from mortal comprehension the primal AIN, Ain, the negatively existent One, & the AIN SVP, Ain Soph, the limitless Expansion; while of even the AIN SVP AVR, Ain Soph Aur, the illimitable Light, only a dim conception can be formed. Yet, if we think deeply , we shall see that such must be the primal forms of the unknowable & nameless One, whom we, in the more manifest form speak of as GOD. He is Absolute. But how define the Absolute? Even as we define it, it slips from our grasp, for it ceases when defined to be the Absolute. Shall we then say that the Negative, the Limitless, the Absolute are, logically speaking, absurd, since they are ideas which our reason cannot define? No; for could we define them, we should make them, so to speak, contained by our reason, & therefore not superior to it; for a subect to be capable of definition it is requisite that certain limits be assignable to it. How then can we limit the illimitable?" --- S.L. MacGregor Mathers _The Kabbalah UnVeiled_ pp 16-17 v30 |
