Other H visas suppress USA non-STEM job markets. The numbers of H-1B & H-1B1 visas hugely exceeded 85K every year since 1997, except during the Wuhan hysteria (when it dropped to 63K). In 2023, over 268K H-1B + H-1B1 visas were issued. About 3M have been issued since 1990.
Over 5800 E-3 visas were issued in 2019, 3100 in 2020, 2300 in 2021, 4700 in 2022, 4400 in 2023. (A total of over 64K E visas were issued in 2016, nearly 63K in 2017, 60,400 in 2018, 63K in 2019, 34K in 2020, 43K in 2021, 10,654 in 2022, 10,603 in 2023.)

Because 2 or 3 million unemployed & under-employed USA citizen STEM pros are not enough? Because 20M-30M excessive USA residents not employed are not enough?
Because we need more Red Chinese spies & Mohammedan terrorists & trans-national criminal gangs to keep us on our toes?
Because housing & land prices haven't been driven up far enough?
Because USA citizens are not over-crowded enough?
Because USA citizens should not land apprenticeships & Co-Ops, & employers should not have to invest in new-hire and retained employee training & relocation?
The USA lost its frontier back in the 1880s, & we've been in-filling/over-crowding ever since. Yes, a few immigrants, with high skill levels, properly investigated before being admitted, would a good thing. But it should have gradually tapered down since 1880, not soared, not flooded, not drowned out... keeping the level between 2% and 5% of the civilian, non-institutionalized, 16 and older residents, not the current 18.08%. And 75%-85% of the total should be employed, & not have only 59.2% of the "natives" employed. (Not my terms; that's the doing of the Illiberal Leftists/ Dems/ Reds/ Regressives/ Socialists/ Fascists/ Nazis/ Marxists/ Communists/ Bolsheviks/ Stalinists/ Maoists/ Collectivists who block the census bureau from counting how many USA citizens there are, and using it for proper redistricting/ apportionment.)
Background "checks", i.e. data-base look-ups which only spot the very worst criminals, take a few minutes. Proper, conscientious background investigations take 3-6 months... OK, sometimes a year, & sometimes it is extremely dangerous and difficult. (Can you imagine being assigned to do background investigations of visa applicants in Iran or Red China or North Korea right now? "Yes, I understand that Ah Clem works here at the socialist kkkredit score office or IRGC or Hezballah relations office or Hamas supply & training office or USA Telecomms cracking bureau or office of state security or the office of Uighur enslavement & organ harvesting, & would like to ask his manager a few questions this morning. Is he available for the next 3 or 4 hours?")
No, the words "legal" or "documented" don't make it all better, because the standards have been lowered or dropped completely, and the numbers exploded. Even the standards adopted in 1645 Massachusetts that they not be inundated with criminals & imprisoned debtors from the London slums.
